The bodies of two children who went missing after leaving their homes have been recovered from the Buriganga River in Dhaka’s Kamrangirchar area.
The deceased were identified as Saif, 9, son of Nur Nabi, and Rohan, 8, son of Md Sohel. Both were residents of Rahmatbagh in Kamrangirchar.
The children went missing on Wednesday after leaving home. Their families searched for them and also made announcements through loudspeakers seeking information about their whereabouts.
On Thursday morning, relatives found the children’s sandals near a riverside ghat in the area. After a further search, their bodies were spotted floating among water hyacinths and later recovered.
Md Anwar Hossain, sub-inspector of the Barishur River Police Outpost, said the children did not know how to swim.
According to their relatives, the two may have fallen into the river while attempting to retrieve a bamboo-made floating raft.
Following a request from the families, the bodies were handed over to the relatives without autopsy, the police official said.
