Around 2,500 candidates who were finally recommended for appointment as government primary school assistant teachers have yet to receive their appointment letters, according to the organisation representing the candidates, Central Panel Primary 2025.

The government has not disclosed any final figure, although another estimate puts the number at more than 2,200.

Media reports suggest that appointments of many candidates have been held up due to adverse verification reports, problems with drug tests, missing health certificates and discrepancies in educational certificates.

Police or intelligence agency verification reports are reportedly the main reason for most of the candidates being excluded.

Officials of the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education have not publicly commented on the issue. However, Education and Primary and Mass Education Minister Dr ANM Ehsanul Haque Milan said confusion was being spread in the media and on social media over the appointment letters.

He said candidates who do not receive their appointment letters by October 1 would be appointed in phases as soon as possible after the necessary verification is completed.

The minister had earlier held an emergency meeting with ministry officials over the recruitment complications.

Meanwhile, Central Panel Primary 2025 has placed five demands, including impartial re-verification of the documents of every excluded candidate, an opportunity to explain any factual discrepancies and an administrative appeal process.

The organisation also demanded that administrative errors resulting in candidates being excluded be corrected and their appointments ensured, and that the authorities publicly explain the circumstances surrounding the issue.

According to the Directorate of Primary Education, the written examination for the 2025 assistant teacher recruitment was held in 61 districts on January 9. A total of 69,265 candidates who passed the written test appeared for the viva voce.

The final results, published on February 8, recommended 14,384 candidates for appointment.

Under the government’s plan, the selected candidates are scheduled to join their respective district primary education offices by October 1, with posting orders to be issued on October 4.

Candidates who have not received appointment letters, however, are seeking a clear explanation as to why their names were dropped despite being finally recommended and what information was found during the verification process.
