UAE Vice President Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan will visit Saudi Arabia on Tuesday at the invitation of Saudi Defence Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman, in the first face-to-face meeting between senior officials of the two countries since a rift over Yemen.

The UAE’s official news agency WAM said Sheikh Mansour accepted the invitation for a “brotherly visit”.

The visit follows signs of improving ties between the two Gulf neighbours. In July, senior officials and ministers from both countries publicly highlighted their friendship and unity on social media.

Saudi Arabia and the UAE have had differences over their approaches to Yemen and other regional conflicts. Riyadh has accused Abu Dhabi of supporting southern Yemeni separatists, while the two countries have also backed rival forces in Sudan and parts of the Horn of Africa.

The latest diplomatic engagement comes as Saudi Arabia faces intensified attacks by Yemen’s Houthi rebels targeting tankers, oil facilities, airports and other sites.

Saudi, Turkish and Pakistani military chiefs also held talks on Friday on ways to support Riyadh as Houthi attacks have escalated.

The two countries have been key regional partners but have increasingly pursued separate foreign-policy priorities in recent years.
