DHAKA: The government is sorry and embarrassed over the attacks and vandalism at the Radda MCH-FP Centre (Radda Health Centre) in Mirpur and the studio of content creator Salman Muqtadir, said Prime Minister’s Information and Broadcasting Adviser Zahed Ur Rahman.

He said anyone found to be involved in the incidents would also be brought to justice if an investigation establishes their involvement.

The adviser made the remarks in response to questions from journalists at a press conference at the Secretariat on Tuesday on the government’s recent activities. However, he did not specifically name the Radda Health Centre or Salman Muqtadir’s studio in his remarks.

A journalist asked whether the government was embarrassed over allegations that BNP members were linked to the attacks and vandalism, which had brought disrepute to the party. The journalist also asked whether a proper investigation would be conducted into allegations that the arrested individuals had been hired and that people affiliated with BNP were linked to those who allegedly sent them.

In response, Zahed said the government was sorry and certainly embarrassed whenever the rights of any citizen were violated, their property was vandalised or they were attacked.

He said the same applied even if the person involved was a criminal, provided such an incident had taken place against them.

“The reason is that ensuring security was the responsibility of the government. That is why we are embarrassed,” he said.

Regarding action over the incidents, Zahed said anyone found through the investigation to have been involved would be brought under the law.

He said the impact of such incidents on people could be very serious. “The state and the government’s responsibility is to try to prevent crime. But when a crime occurs, ensuring justice and taking measures to prevent similar crimes in the future are also the government’s responsibility,” he said.

“So rest assured, this will not end here. There will be an investigation. And if, as I repeat, anyone else is found to be involved, they will certainly be brought under the law,” Zahed added.
