Bangladesh Police has urged people to refrain from spreading false, misleading or malicious information on social media using the names, ranks and photographs of its senior officers and personnel, warning that legal action will be taken against those involved.
The warning was issued in a post published late Wednesday night on the verified Facebook page of Bangladesh Police.
According to the post, false, misleading and motivated content using the names, ranks and photographs of several senior police officers and members has recently been circulated on social media, which could create public confusion.
The police said anyone found using the name, rank or photograph of any police member to spread false, misleading or defamatory information will face legal action under the country’s existing laws.
