A 46-year-old inmate of the Central Jail in Keraniganj died after being taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) on Sunday afternoon.
The inmate, identified as Md Sujon, suddenly fell ill at the jail around 4pm and was taken to the hospital’s emergency department, where doctors declared him dead.
According to jail guard Al-Amin, Sujon’s inmate number was 6316/A and his case number was 5295/26 (CR). He was the son of Siraj Mia of Gorai area in Nikli upazila of Kishoreganj.
Sujon complained of chest pain before being taken to DMCH, the guard said.
Habibur Rahman, inspector at the DMCH police camp, confirmed the death, quoting doctors.
The body has been kept at the hospital morgue for an autopsy, he said, adding that the jail authorities have been informed.
An executive magistrate will be present during the inquest before the autopsy is conducted. The body will be handed over to the family after the autopsy, he added.
