Two Indian nationals were allegedly shot by India’s Border Security Force (BSF) after being mistaken for Bangladeshis and left injured inside Bangladesh territory along the Daikhawa border in Kurigram.
The two men, identified as Abdul Alim and Ismail Hossain, are currently undergoing treatment at Rangpur Medical College Hospital.
Hospital Director Brig Gen Ashikur Rahman confirmed on Monday that the two were admitted to the surgery department with gunshot injuries and were receiving necessary treatment.
According to reports, the two men were found injured in the Daikhawa border area around midnight on Sunday. Bangladeshi locals later rescued them and took them to the hospital, where they are being treated under police custody.
Both are residents of South Salmara Mankachar Boro Balu area under Sukhchar police station in Assam’s South Salmara Mankachar district. Abdul Alim is the son of Abdul Majid Mondal, while Ismail is the son of the late Abdul Karim Sheikh.
Hospital sources said both men sustained gunshot wounds, with Abdul Alim in critical condition.
Brig Gen Ashikur said the two Indian nationals were receiving free treatment and that law enforcement agencies would take necessary measures regarding them.
However, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) disputed the allegation against the BSF. Lt Col Mahabub Ul Haque, commander of Kurigram Battalion (22 BGB), said no shooting incident had taken place along the border.
The BSF has not yet issued any immediate comment on the allegation.
