A 38-year-old man was allegedly hacked to death by members of a rival group in Debdun village of Narail’s Kalia upazila on Monday night.
The deceased was identified as Arafat Mollia, son of Mokidul Mollia of the village.
The incident occurred near his home in Jaynagar Union under Naragati Police Station around midnight.
According to the victim’s family and locals, members of a rival group called Arafat out of his house before attacking him with sharp weapons. He was critically injured in the attack.
When female members of his family attempted to intervene, the attackers also assaulted them, they alleged.
Locals rescued Arafat in critical condition and took him to Kalia Upazila Health Complex, where the duty doctor declared him dead on arrival.
Naragati Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Hossain Ali said Arafat’s body was being sent to the hospital morgue for autopsy.
He added that more than 10 cases had been filed against Arafat and that six arrest warrants had been issued against him.
