Police recovered the mutilated body of a businessman from a turmeric field in Pabna’s Bera upazila on Tuesday morning, about 24 hours after he went missing.
The deceased was identified as Suprabhat Modak, 38, son of Satya Chandra Modak of Ahmadpur Union. He was a businessman at Dadabhai Hotel in Kashinathpur.
According to family members and locals, Suprabhat left his business establishment on Monday without informing anyone and did not return home that night. His family searched for him in different places before filing a written complaint with Aminpur Police Station.
Police then tried to track his mobile phone using information technology. The phone was found switched on around midnight, but Suprabhat did not answer repeated calls. Later, a call was made from his number, but his location could not be confirmed.
On Tuesday morning, locals spotted his mutilated body lying in a turmeric field behind his home and informed police.
Police recovered the body and sent it to Pabna General Hospital for autopsy.
Aminpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Golam Mostofa said the exact circumstances of Suprabhat’s death and those responsible would be determined after investigation.
