172 officials promoted to joint secretary

The government has promoted 172 deputy secretaries to the rank of joint secretary, according to an order issued by the Ministry of Public Administration on Thursday.

Earlier in the day, a summary of the promotions was sent to the Prime Minister’s Office. The promotions were approved following the prime minister’s consent.

The ministry said the promotions cover previously overlooked officers from the 24th and 25th Bangladesh Civil Service (Administration) cadre batches.

More than 190 officers, including those from the administration and other cadres, were considered from the 24th batch. Of them, 172 were promoted.

Earlier, 80 officers from the same batch had already been elevated to joint secretary. The remaining eligible officers will be considered in subsequent phases, while their future promotion to additional secretary is also under review.

From the 25th batch, around 80 officers out of a total of 170 have been brought under consideration for promotion, with the rest expected to be considered later.

Many officers from the 25th batch had already been promoted to deputy secretary and are currently serving in key government positions, including as deputy commissioners (DCs).

The ministry said officers from both batches who are facing pending legal cases or other litigation-related complications were not considered for promotion.
