Purchase committee approves eight proposals

The Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase on Wednesday approved eight proposals, including a revised tariff for purchasing electricity from the Ashuganj 400MW Combined Cycle (East) power plant and the appointment of a consultant for construction and supervision work to convert the Chattogram-Dohazari metre-gauge railway into a dual-gauge line.

The committee also approved a proposal to increase the cost of constructing a railway overpass in Kushtia.
Finance and Planning Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury chaired the meeting held at the Secretariat.
According to the Finance Ministry, the committee approved a proposal to set a revised tariff for electricity purchased from the Ashuganj 400MW Combined Cycle (East) power plant, operated by Ashuganj Power Station Company Ltd.

The revised tariff was set at 3.7 US cents, equivalent to Tk4.5436, per kilowatt-hour.

The committee also approved the appointment of a consultant for construction and supervision work under the project to convert the Chattogram-Dohazari metre-gauge railway into a dual-gauge line.

The joint venture of SMEC-OCG-ACE-DDC was awarded the work at a cost of Tk176.38 crore.

Another proposal was approved to import 40,000 tonnes of diammonium phosphate (DAP) fertiliser from Morocco’s OCP Nutricrops SA through the Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC) under a government-to-government agreement.

The fertiliser will cost US$866 per tonne, with the total expenditure estimated at Tk427.80 crore.

The committee approved the appointment of the joint venture HICC-UCC to implement a package under the Haor Area Elevated Roads and Physical Infrastructure Development Project in Jamalganj, Sunamganj, at a cost of Tk264 crore.

It also approved the appointment of Messrs Kamrul and Brothers to carry out civil works under a package for reconstruction and rehabilitation of roads, bridges and culverts damaged by the 2022 floods in Sunamganj and Habiganj. The cost of the work is Tk123.21 crore.

A proposal to construct an 11-storey, 1-basement Rajshahi Medical University and Clinical Faculty Building with 1,200 beds and other facilities was also approved.

Wahid Construction Ltd will carry out the work at a cost of Tk497.33 crore.

The committee separately approved two proposals for procuring medical equipment for the operation theatre and various departments of Sunamganj Medical College and Hospital. Both contracts were awarded to Messrs Raju Enterprise, with a combined cost of around Tk33.48 crore.

Meanwhile, the committee approved a variation proposal to increase the cost of the Rail Bazar Railway Overpass project on the Kushtia (Trimohoni)-Meherpur-Chuadanga-Jhenaidah (R-745) regional highway by Tk9.50 crore.
