One killed in Dhamrai bus-covered van collision

A covered van driver was killed in a head-on collision between a bus and a covered van on the Dhaka-Aricha Highway in Dhamrai, Dhaka, on Thursday morning.

The deceased was identified as Abu Bakar Siddiq, 26, a resident of Netrokona district.

According to Fire Service and highway police sources, the accident occurred in the Srirampur area when a Dhaka-bound staff bus of AKH Eco Apparels collided head-on with an Aricha-bound covered van coming from the opposite direction.

The covered van was badly mangled in the crash, and its driver died on the spot.

Members of Golra Highway Police and Dhamrai Fire Service went to the scene after receiving the report and recovered the body. Traffic on the highway was disrupted for some time following the accident.

ASI Md Zainul of Golra Highway Police told Dhaka Post that police visited the scene and recovered the body before removing the damaged vehicles from the highway and restoring traffic movement.

He said police were conducting a drive to arrest the bus driver in connection with the accident.
