The office of Rajshahi Medical University (RAMEU) Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Md Jawadul Haque was unlocked on Thursday in the presence of an executive magistrate as part of an investigation into a recent incident at the university.
Senior Assistant Commissioner and Executive Magistrate Arif Hossain entered the office with the complainant and two witnesses in the case. Initial investigative procedures were carried out in their presence.
The administration said the overall situation on the university campus, including law and order, remained normal during the process.
Executive Magistrate Arif Hossain said the office was entered as part of the investigation officer’s next steps, with the complainant and two witnesses present. He said the initial procedures were completed in accordance with the institution’s prescribed protocol.
“The overall situation at the institution, as well as the law and order situation, is normal. There is no unpleasant situation at the moment,” he said.
Several leaders and activists of the BNP and its affiliated organisations were present when the office was unlocked.
Rajshahi Metropolitan Jubo Dal convener Shariful Islam Jony said the BNP and its affiliated organisations had cooperated with the administration in opening the office in the presence of the executive magistrate, as instructed by the authorities.
He said the party had issued clear instructions following an earlier incident at the university and that its leaders and activists would not support any form of violence, occupation or forcible takeover.
Earlier, BNP and its affiliated organisations brought VC Prof Dr Md Jawadul Haque from his residence to the university office.
The development followed an incident on Tuesday, October 6, when a group identifying themselves as “students and members of the public” allegedly entered the RAMEU campus and forced the vice-chancellor to sign a resignation letter. The group subsequently locked his office.
Following a case filed over the incident, the lock was opened on Thursday in the presence of the executive magistrate, with the complainant and two witnesses present, as part of the investigation.
