The government has appointed Abdullah Al Mamun, Deputy Secretary of the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Division, as the new Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Sylhet.
The appointment was announced through a notification issued by the Ministry of Public Administration on Thursday.
The decision comes after the appointment of Mu. Reza Hasan, then Deputy Commissioner of Cumilla, as Sylhet DC could not be implemented.
Although Reza Hasan was transferred to Sylhet on June 28 and had already handed over his responsibilities in Cumilla, he returned from the airport following fresh government instructions before assuming his new post.
Earlier, on June 21, the government withdrew the then Sylhet Deputy Commissioner Sarwar Alam from his post and attached him to the Ministry of Public Administration as a Deputy Secretary.
Following the cancellation of Reza Hasan’s joining process, speculation had been growing over who would be appointed to lead the Sylhet district administration.
The government has now ended that uncertainty by appointing Abdullah Al Mamun as the new Deputy Commissioner of Sylhet.
