DHAKA: The death toll from dengue in Bangladesh has risen to 299 this year, with four more people dying from the Aedes mosquito-borne disease in the past 24 hours till Saturday morning. During the same period, 1,631 people were hospitalised with dengue.
The information was obtained from the dengue dashboard of the Health Emergency Operation Centre and Control Room of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Saturday (October 10).
According to the DGHS, the latest fatalities included two men and two women. Of all dengue deaths recorded this year, 51.9% were women and 48.1% were men.
A monthly breakdown shows that two people died of dengue each in January and February, while no deaths were reported in March or April. One person died in May, followed by 13 deaths in June, 36 in July and 43 in August.
The situation deteriorated further in September, when dengue claimed 148 lives.
In the first 10 days of October, 54 people have died from the disease. The highest single-day death toll during this period was recorded on October 6, when 10 people died.
