Six people, including a husband and wife, suffered burn injuries in two separate incidents in Narayanganj, with four of them in critical condition following a gas leak explosion in Kachpur.
The injured are receiving treatment at the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in Dhaka.
The victims of the Kachpur incident are Rozina, 30, her husband Sharif, 34, Riaz, 22, and Roni, 19. Rozina suffered burns to 60% of her body, while Sharif and Riaz sustained 40% burns each. Roni suffered burns to 70% of his body.
Dr Sultan Mahmud Sikder, a resident surgeon at the institute’s emergency department, confirmed the injuries on Sunday morning, saying the four patients were receiving treatment based on their medical conditions.
The explosion occurred around 1:30am on Saturday in Kachpur, Narayanganj. According to people who brought the victims to the hospital, members of two families were injured in the incident.
In a separate incident in Fatullah, two workers, Anwar, 40, and Shamsul, 30, suffered burn injuries while working at a factory.
They were admitted to the burn institute late Friday night, at 11:33pm and 11:34pm, respectively.
Dr Sikder said Anwar sustained burns to 54% of his body, while Shamsul suffered burns to 55% of his body and also sustained injuries to his respiratory tract.
