Police have recovered the dismembered body of a woman from a bag in South Jatrabari, Dhaka, and detained her husband in connection with the killing.
The body of the woman, identified as Shirin Begum, was recovered late Sunday night. Police suspect that her husband, Dulal Hawlader, a CNG-run auto-rickshaw driver, killed her and dismembered her body.
Inspector SM Moin Uddin of Jatrabari Police Station told media that the killing was suspected to have stemmed from a domestic dispute.
According to a police source familiar with the investigation, Shirin had lived in the Middle East for several years. After returning to Bangladesh, she lived with her husband in a rented house in South Jatrabari.
Dulal reportedly suspected that Shirin was talking to another person over the phone, and the couple had been arguing over the issue for two days.
The house owner called the national emergency service 999 on Sunday, following which police went to the house and recovered the body.
Police sources said Dulal allegedly killed Shirin on Sunday and placed her dismembered remains in a bag. Her head, neck and both legs had been severed, the sources added.
Jatrabari police said legal proceedings in connection with the incident were underway.
