Saudi Arabia’s foreign minister spoke with his Iranian counterpart about the recent escalation of regional tensions and efforts to de-escalate the conflict, the Saudi state news agency reported on Sunday.
The conversation marked the first publicly reported contact between the two officials since Yemen’s Iran-aligned Houthi movement intensified attacks on Saudi Arabia.
Iran’s foreign minister said Tehran was ready to provide any assistance to facilitate dialogue between Saudi Arabia and Yemen, according to a post on his Telegram account.
The Houthis have launched several attacks on Saudi Arabia over the past week, including a strike on Riyadh’s international airport on Saturday that killed 13 people and injured more than 300, according to the report.
