A madrasa teacher has been arrested in Tangail on allegations of raping a housewife and blackmailing her with compromising photographs.
The accused, Khairul Islam, 33, son of Enam Ali of Gala village in Tangail Sadar upazila, was arrested by SRB-14, according to a press release signed by its media officer, Nadia Farzana, on Tuesday morning.
According to the press release and the case statement, the victim’s daughter studies at a madrasa where Khairul taught her at home. He frequently visited the family’s residence, ostensibly to check on the girl’s studies.
On August 8, he allegedly visited the house and found the woman alone while her daughter was playing outside. He allegedly threatened and raped her, secretly taking compromising photographs.
He later allegedly threatened to circulate the photographs on social media and raped her again.
The victim filed a case with the Tangail Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal on October 2.
Following the filing of the case, SRB-14’s CPC-3 used information technology to track down the accused. He was arrested during a raid near Elenga College intersection in Kalihati upazila on Monday evening.
He was subsequently handed over to the police station concerned for further legal action.
