Police have arrested 39 men and women during a raid on a residential hotel in Kaliakair, Gazipur, over alleged involvement in illicit activities.
Kaliakair Police Station Officer-in-Charge Shahidul Islam said police raided the hotel at Mannan Plaza in the Chandra area along the Dhaka-Tangail highway on Tuesday night.
The arrestees, including men and women allegedly involved in the activities and members of the hotel management, were sent to the district jail through court after legal procedures on Wednesday afternoon.
According to police, local residents had long complained that illicit activities were being carried out at the hotel. Although police had conducted several raids in the past, the activities allegedly continued in secret.
OC Shahidul Islam said police operations would continue to prevent such activities. Legal action has been taken against the arrestees, who were produced before a court, he added.
