Saudi Arabia has executed two Bangladeshi nationals, identified as Nazrul Islam Abdul Bashir and Siti Akhtar, in the Mecca region over an offence committed inside a mosque, according to the Saudi Interior Ministry.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the ministry said security forces arrested the two after the offence was established. Following an investigation, they were formally charged and tried in court.
The court sentenced them to death, citing the seriousness of the offence and the sanctity of the holy site. The verdict was upheld by higher authorities, and the executions were carried out under a royal order on Wednesday.
The ministry said the government remains committed to enforcing Islamic Sharia law and warned that anyone who violates the sanctity of mosques or commits similar offences would face strict legal action.
