The Arab League has condemned Colombia’s opening of an embassy in Jerusalem, saying the move violates international resolutions and undermines the legal status of East Jerusalem.
In a statement, the League described East Jerusalem as occupied Palestinian territory since 1967 and the capital of the State of Palestine. It warned that the move contradicts international consensus and undermines the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people.
The League cited UN Security Council Resolutions 478 (1980) and 2334 (2016), which reject unilateral changes to Jerusalem’s status and reaffirm the international community’s position on territories occupied since 1967.
It urged Colombia to reverse its decision and comply with international law, warning that unilateral actions could undermine peace efforts and prospects for a two-state solution.
The League reiterated its call for an independent Palestinian state along the June 4, 1967 lines, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
