DHAKA: Kazi Rakib Hossain has been appointed on a contractual basis as the assistant press secretary to the President.

He studied at the 46th batch of the Department of Law at the University of Dhaka. He also previously served as the president of the Bangladesh Students’ Union at Dhaka University.

His appointment was announced in a notification issued by the Ministry of Public Administration on Monday (November 19).

According to the notification, Kazi Rakib Hossain has been appointed on a contractual basis on the condition that he relinquish any association with other professions, businesses, or government, semi-government and private institutions or organisations.

His appointment will take effect from the date he joins and remain valid for the duration of the President’s tenure or until the President is no longer satisfied with his services, whichever occurs first.

The notification added that other terms and conditions of the appointment would be determined through a contract. The order was issued in the public interest.

According to sources, Kazi Rakib Hossain was appointed convener of a faction of the Dhaka University unit of the Bangladesh Students’ Union in 2022. He later stepped away from politics after the committee was dissolved.

Following the July uprising in 2024, he joined an organisation called The Bangladesh Dialogue as its chief operating officer.
