The United States is expected to reopen registration for its Diversity Visa (DV-2027) lottery by November 1, following a federal court order directing the US Department of State to resume the programme.
Under a revised court schedule, the department must announce the registration details by October 29, 2026, and open the application process by November 1.
The registration window must remain open for 30 days. The department is also required to notify selected applicants by December 3, according to reports on the court order.
The DV lottery, commonly known as the Green Card lottery, offers eligible applicants an opportunity to obtain permanent residence in the United States.
The programme makes up to 55,000 immigrant visas available annually, subject to eligibility requirements and visa availability.
The registration process for the DV-2027 programme had been delayed after the State Department announced changes to the entry process in November 2025.
The department had not announced a registration start date, prompting legal action seeking the programme’s resumption.
A federal judge in California subsequently ordered the department to proceed with registration.
The revised deadlines provide additional time for the government to comply with the order, although further legal developments could affect the process.
Bangladeshis’ eligibility remains uncertain
Whether people born in Bangladesh will be eligible to apply for the DV-2027 lottery remains an important question.
Bangladesh was excluded from the eligible-country list for the DV-2026 programme, and eligibility for the next cycle should not be assumed until the US authorities publish the official instructions.
Prospective applicants are advised to monitor the US Department of State’s official website for the registration schedule, eligible-country list and application requirements.
The official entry portal is dvprogram.state.gov.
The department says entries must be submitted electronically during the designated registration period. Applicants should also be cautious of fraudulent agents and websites claiming to guarantee selection.
