The Islamic Foundation has warned that a fraud ring is impersonating the organisation to target imams, khatibs, muezzins and mosque management committees across the country, urging everyone to remain vigilant.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the Foundation said the scammers are contacting victims by phone, mobile calls, social media and other online platforms to obtain sensitive personal and financial information.
The fraudsters reportedly seek bank account details, mobile banking information, national ID data, phone numbers and mosque salary-related information under various pretexts.
The Foundation clarified that neither its headquarters nor any district or upazila office requests such information through unauthorised individuals or phone numbers.
It warned that anyone asking for bank details, OTPs, PINs or other confidential information in the name of government allowances, grants or financial benefits is likely attempting fraud.
The Islamic Foundation urged imams, khatibs, muezzins, mosque committee members and others concerned not to share any personal or financial information with unknown callers.
It also advised verifying any request made in the Foundation’s name through the relevant district or upazila office.
