A 15-year-old girl died after falling from the eighth floor of the postgraduate medical facility commonly known as PG Hospital in Dhaka on Saturday afternoon.
The girl, Samia Noor, fell at around 2:30pm while visiting her mother, who had been admitted to the hospital for treatment of a uterine tumour, her father, Nurunnabi, said.
According to her father, his wife, Parul Akter, 45, was admitted to the hospital six days ago and was scheduled to undergo surgery on October 28.
Samia was sitting beside her mother’s hospital bed and talking with her when she reportedly tried to sit on a waist-high wall a short distance away. She accidentally fell from the eighth floor, her father said.
She was rescued in critical condition and taken to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where she was admitted to the One-Stop Emergency Care Centre. She died while undergoing treatment at around 6pm.
Nurunnabi said the couple had no biological children and had adopted Samia when she was three years old.
Samia was a seventh-grade student at Kamarjuri Yusuf Ali High School and Girls’ College in Gazipur. Her father runs a confectionery shop in the Kalmeswar area near Board Bazar in Gazipur.
