The government has awarded primary scholarships to 79,246 students across the country, with 32,965 securing Talentpool scholarships and 46,281 receiving General scholarships.
Of the recipients, 35,892 are boys (45.29 percent) and 43,354 are girls (54.71 percent), Education Minister Ehsanul Hoque Milon said at a press briefing held at the International Mother Language Institute in Dhaka on Sunday.
The Primary Scholarship Examination 2025 was conducted in April for fifth-grade students to recognise academic excellence and encourage institutions to nurture a knowledge-based generation, the minister added.
More than 640,000 students registered for the examination, including around 550,000 from government primary schools and about 90,000 from non-government institutions and kindergartens. A total of 419,982 students—65.11 percent of registered candidates—ultimately sat for the test.
Among them, 344,127 students were from government schools, while 75,855 represented non-government institutions. Girls accounted for a majority of examinees at 60.32 percent, compared to 39.68 percent boys.
According to the Primary Scholarship Examination Policy 2026, the government had planned to award 82,500 scholarships nationwide, including 33,000 Talentpool and 49,500 General scholarships.
Under the distribution system, 80 percent of Talentpool scholarships were allocated to government school students and 20 percent to non-government institutions.
For General scholarships, 39,600 were designated for government schools—based on quotas for each union and ward—while the remaining 20 percent were reserved for students at the upazila level from non-government institutions.
A total of 78,810 educational institutions participated in the examination, including 65,605 government primary schools and 13,205 non-government institutions.
Of the Talentpool awardees, 26,375 are from government schools and 6,590 from non-government institutions. Among General scholarship recipients, 36,420 are from government schools and 9,861 from non-government institutions.
The minister said the results are being uploaded on the Directorate of Primary Education website, with the process expected to be completed within a few hours.
