US-Bangla Airlines is set to resume scheduled flights between Dhaka and Kathmandu from September, ending an eight-year suspension on the route.
The private carrier will initially operate four weekly flights using Boeing 737-800 aircraft, aiming to strengthen connectivity between Bangladesh and Nepal.
Confirming the development, General Manager (Public Relations) Kamrul Islam said preparations are in their final stages, with a formal announcement expected soon.
The airline’s return is likely to boost competition on the Dhaka–Kathmandu route, where only a limited number of carriers currently operate.
US-Bangla suspended its services on this route following the tragic crash of Flight BS-211 at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu on March 12, 2018.
The Bombardier Dash 8-Q400 aircraft crashed 2nd landing, marking one of the deadliest aviation disasters in Bangladesh’s history.
Industry observers see the relaunch as part of US-Bangla’s broader expansion strategy, which includes plans to grow its fleet and add new international destinations, signalling a renewed push to strengthen its presence in the regional aviation market.
