The Election Commission (EC) has begun the process of finalising polling centres for the upcoming local government elections, with the final list scheduled to be published on August 27.
The information was disclosed in a letter signed by Md Rashid Mia, Senior Assistant Secretary of the Election Commission, on Wednesday.
According to the EC, under the Polling Centre Establishment and Management Guidelines for Local Government Elections-2025, the final list of polling centres must be approved and published in the form of a gazette at least 25 days before polling.
As per the schedule, a draft list of polling centres will be published on August 10, while claims and objections can be submitted until August 18.
The verification and disposal of objections must be completed by August 23, after which the EC will publish the final list of polling centres on August 27.
The letter also instructed election officials to make maximum use of existing infrastructure while setting up polling centres.
In particular, officials have been asked to avoid proposing temporary polling rooms if sufficient space is available inside permanent buildings.
The EC further directed that the final list of polling centres be sent to the Election Support-3 Branch through the respective regional election officers.
Hard and soft copies of the final list must also be submitted within seven days of the election schedule being announced, the letter said.
