Jatiya Sangsad Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed, Bir Bikram, has returned to Dhaka after completing his official visit to Qatar, where he delivered Prime Minister Tariq Rahman’s special condolence message to the country’s current Amir following the death of the former Amir.
The Speaker arrived at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at around 3:00 a.m. on Thursday (July 16), according to an official press release issued by the Jatiya Sangsad Secretariat.
He had departed for Doha on July 14 to convey Bangladesh’s condolences over the passing of Qatar’s former Amir.
During the visit, Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed met with Qatar’s current Amir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, following the death of his father, former Amir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani. At the meeting, the Speaker formally handed over the condolence message sent by Prime Minister Tariq Rahman.
On behalf of the Government and the people of Bangladesh, the Speaker expressed heartfelt sympathy to the Amir and the bereaved members of the Qatari royal family. He also prayed for the eternal peace of the late Amir’s soul.
After completing the condolence ceremony, the Speaker held a bilateral meeting with Hassan bin Abdullah Al-Ghanim, Speaker of Qatar’s Shura Council.
The two leaders discussed parliamentary cooperation and other issues of mutual interest. Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed expressed confidence that the longstanding friendly relations between Bangladesh and Qatar would continue to grow stronger. He also noted that the visit would play an important role in further enhancing bilateral and diplomatic ties between the two countries.
Following the conclusion of his engagements, the Speaker returned to Bangladesh, successfully completing his official visit to Qatar.
