Police have recovered a large quantity of government rice hidden inside a box bed at a house in Lalmohan upazila of Bhola, following a tip-off to the national emergency helpline 999.
According to Police Inspector Anwar Sattar, media and public relations officer of the 999 service, a caller alerted authorities around 1:15 pm on Saturday that government rice from the Directorate General of Food had been illegally stored for smuggling at the home of one Jasim Sardar in Kishoreganj village under Lalmohan Police Station.
Acting swiftly on the information, a police team conducted a raid at the house and seized a total of 1,170 kilograms of rice—including 24 sacks of 30 kg each and nine sacks of 50 kg each—hidden inside a box bed.
A woman, identified as Rokeya Begum, 35, was arrested at the scene, while the main accused, Jasim Sardar, remains on the run.
A case has been filed in connection with the incident.
