Abhijit Dipke, the founder of the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP), has been detained by Delhi Police during a protest march toward Parliament in New Delhi.
The detention took place on Monday (July 20) during the party’s “Chalo Sansad” (March to Parliament) program, organized to demand reforms in the examination system. The information was confirmed by party spokesperson Sourav Das, according to reports by The Times of India.
In a post on X, Sourav Das alleged that police detained Dipke and used force against peaceful protesters. He also called on members of parliament to stand along side students demonstrating on the streets.
Earlier in the day, thousands of CJP supporters gathered at Jantar Mantar and attempted to march toward Parliament. Police said protesters tried to breach high-security barricades around the parliament area, prompting the use of tear gas and limited force to control the situation.
According to Indian media reports, clashes broke out around 11:25 am when demonstrators attempted to cross multiple security barriers. Several protesters and police officers sustained minor injuries, and around 10 to 15 protesters were detained.
Tensions further escalated near Constitution Club of India and the Reserve Bank of India area, where security forces dispersed protesters. CJP claimed that at least seven of its supporters were detained near the RBI zone.
However, Delhi Police rejected allegations of excessive force. Deputy Commissioner Sachin Sharma stated that only minimal force was used to restore order and that claims of widespread violence or массовые detentions were inaccurate.
In an official statement posted on X, police urged the public not to believe rumors and to cooperate in maintaining law and order.
The Cockroach Janata Party was founded in May this year by Abhijit Dipke as a satirical digital movement. It emerged following controversy surrounding remarks by India’s Chief Justice Surya Kant related to parasites and cockroaches.
Despite its unconventional origins, the group quickly gained traction on social media, attracting millions of followers. It has also received support from opposition politicians, activists, artists, and athletes across India.
