Dhaka: The Election Commission (EC) has convened a high-level meeting to review the progress, scope, and future roadmap of the “Overseas Voting System Development and Implementation (OCV-SDI)” project, which aims to ensure voting rights for Bangladeshi citizens living abroad.
The meeting will be held on Wednesday (22 July) at 11:00 a.m. in Conference Room 520 of the Election Commission Building.
According to officials, the meeting will be chaired by Election Commissioner Brigadier General (Retd.) Abul Fazal Md. Sanaullah and attended by the EC’s Senior Secretary along with other senior officials. The meeting was confirmed through an official order signed on Tuesday (21 July) by Mamunur Hossain, Deputy Project Director of the OCV-SDI project.
The Election Commission launched the OCV-SDI project to enable overseas Bangladeshis to vote for the first time in the 13th National Parliamentary Election. Under the initiative, expatriate voters were able to cast their ballots through an IT-assisted postal voting system.
A total of 763,233 overseas Bangladeshis registered under the program, of whom 544,378 exercised their voting rights. Subsequently, 498,205 ballots were received by returning officers, with 471,973 of them declared valid.
