Storms, rain likely to occur in 17 regions across Bangladesh

Dhaka: The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has forecast rain or thundershowers accompanied by gusty winds in 17 regions of the country.

According to the inland river ports weather bulletin issued on Wednesday, valid from 5:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., the affected regions include Rajshahi, Pabna, Bogura, Dhaka, Tangail, Mymensingh, Faridpur, Jashore, Kushtia, Khulna, Barishal, Patuakhali, Noakhali, Cumilla, Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, and Sylhet.

The bulletin, signed by Meteorologist Md. Tariful Newaz Kabir, said these areas may experience wind speeds of 45–60 km/h, along with rain or thunderstorms. Inland river ports in the affected regions have been advised to display Local Cautionary Signal No. 1.

Meanwhile, the nationwide weather forecast issued by the BMD on Tuesday night said that by 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, most places in the Barishal and Chattogram divisions, as well as many areas in the Rajshahi, Rangpur, Dhaka, Mymensingh, Khulna, and Sylhet divisions, are likely to experience temporary gusty winds with light to moderate rain or thundershowers.

The forecast also warned that moderately heavy to very heavy rainfall may occur at some places in the Barishal and Chattogram divisions.

Day and night temperatures across the country are expected to remain nearly unchanged, according to the weather department.
