The 33rd ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF) ministerial meeting has officially commenced in Manila, Philippines, bringing together representatives from 27 countries to address pressing regional and global security challenges.
Held on Thursday (July 23) in the Philippine capital, the forum gathers foreign ministers and senior officials from key global players, including the United States, China, Russia, Japan, South Korea, India, Pakistan, and the European Union. ASEAN Secretary-General Kao Kim Hourn is also in attendance.
The meeting was inaugurated by Philippine Foreign Affairs Secretary Ma. Theresa P. Lazaro, who currently serves as chair of the ARF. In her opening remarks, she emphasized the forum’s critical role as an “indispensable platform” for fostering political dialogue and security cooperation among member states.
Lazaro highlighted the importance of sustained diplomacy and continuous dialogue in promoting peace, stability, and mutual trust across the Asia-Pacific region. She also urged member nations to strengthen collaboration in addressing both traditional and emerging security challenges.
