The body of a young man recovered from the Bhairab River in Abhaynagar Upazila has been identified as 25-year-old Nisorgo Saha, who had been missing for five days.
The body was recovered on Friday afternoon from the Mashrahati area by Nawapara river police. Later that evening, family members arrived at the scene and identified the deceased based on his clothing.
Nisorgo, the son of Palash Biswas from Jessore town, had been staying at his grandfather’s home in Mahakal village. He left home on the morning of July 20, saying he was going out, but did not return. His mother filed a general diary (GD) with the local police station that same night after being unable to find him.
Local residents reported seeing a body floating along the river near Madhyapur earlier that day during high tide. The individual was wearing jeans and a yellow T-shirt. Police later located the body about three kilometers downstream near the Bhairab Bridge and recovered it around 3:00 p.m.
Authorities said the body had decomposed after several days in the water. Family members identified him through his clothing.
According to the family, Nisorgo had been experiencing mental health challenges. The body has been sent to the Jessore 250-bed General Hospital morgue for an autopsy.
Sub-Inspector Ranjit Sen of the Nawapara river police outpost confirmed the identification and said the exact cause of death will be determined after the post-mortem report is completed.
