Bangladesh is witnessing a growing public health concern as suspected measles deaths continue to rise, with six more children dying in the past 24 hours.
According to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), the latest fatalities—reported until 8:00 a.m. Saturday—bring the combined total of confirmed and suspected measles-related deaths to 816.
Health officials have reported that: 721 deaths are classified as suspected measles fatalities. 95 deaths have been laboratory-confirmed.613 new suspected cases were recorded in the last 24 hours.Total suspected cases now stand at 122,763.78 new confirmed cases were added, bringing total confirmed infections to 15,272.
The steady increase in both suspected and confirmed cases highlights the pressure on the country’s healthcare system.
Since March 15, more than 105,000 patients with suspected measles have been hospitalized across Bangladesh.
Encouragingly, over 101,500 patients have recovered, but the high number of infections and hospital admissions continues to stretch medical resources.
Public health experts warn that measles—though preventable—can become life-threatening, particularly for children with weak immune systems or limited access to timely treatment.
The DGHS continues to monitor the situation closely, classifying cases based on clinical symptoms and laboratory confirmation.
Experts stress the importance of vaccination, early detection, and improved healthcare access to contain the outbreak and reduce fatalities.
