India’s education minister resigns amid student protests

India’s Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has stepped down following mounting pressure from student-led protests.

In a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter) on Saturday, Pradhan confirmed that he had submitted his resignation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The resignation came just hours before the third round of talks between the government and the protesting group, identified as the Cockroach Janata Party.

For over a month, demonstrators have been staging protests at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi, with one of their  primary demands being the resignation of the education minister.

The movement has steadily gained momentum, putting increasing pressure on the government to respond.

As of now, there has been no official confirmation on whether the prime minister has accepted the resignation or who will replace Pradhan in the role.

The development marks a significant moment in the ongoing standoff between student groups and the central government, with further updates expected as discussions continue.
