The body of a tourist who went missing after a boat capsized in the Sangu River in Bandarban has been recovered two days after the incident, authorities said.
The deceased, Md Jawad Ul Islam Mahia, 24, was found on Sunday morning near the Raja Pathor area under Thanchi. He was the son of Md Helal Uddin from Mymensingh’s Maskanda area.
According to Lt Col Md Yasir Arafat Hossain, commanding officer of the 38 BGB Bolipara Battalion, locals spotted the body floating in the river and informed authorities. It was later recovered and kept at a nearby camp before being handed over to the family.
The accident occurred on Friday afternoon when a group of 13 tourists travelled via Alikadam to reach Tindu after a motorcycle journey through the Dim Pahar route. From there, they set out for Langlok Waterfall, but their boat capsized near Raja Pathor in the Sangu River.
While six members of the group managed to survive, Mahia went missing in the incident, prompting a search that ended with the recovery of his body on Sunday.
