Senior journalist Amir Khasru died on Saturday evening while undergoing treatment at Bangladesh Medical University in Dhaka. He was in his 60s.
He breathed his last at around 7pm at the university’s Super Specialized Hospital, where he had been receiving treatment in the intensive care unit (ICU) for several days.
Khasru had long been suffering from kidney and liver complications, according to family sources.
He had a career spanning more than four decades in journalism. He worked for several leading media outlets, including the Daily Sangbad, the Daily Ittefaq and Channel i.
He also served as Bangladesh correspondent for Voice of America and executive editor of the weekly Budhbar.
He is survived by his wife, a son and a daughter.
His funeral prayer is scheduled to be held after Zuhr prayers on Sunday at Banani Intellectuals’ Graveyard in Dhaka, where he will be buried.
