The third session of the 13th Jatiya Sangsad is set to begin at 3pm today (Thursday), with several important bills and national issues expected to come under discussion.
The session is expected to be relatively brief, with the Business Advisory Committee scheduled to determine its duration and agenda. Parliamentary standing committees are also likely to be formed during the session.
At least five bills are expected to be tabled, including legislation on the National Human Rights Commission, prevention and redress of enforced disappearances, and amendments to the Transfer of Property Act.
A draft Bank Resolution (Amendment) Act and a bill relating to a Special Response Battalion may also be placed before the House.
Opposition lawmakers are expected to raise issues concerning law and order, shortages of gas and electricity, fertilizer supplies and alleged partisan appointments in government agencies.
The second session of the 13th Parliament ended on July 15 after 27 working days. The third session was summoned by President Hafiz Uddin Ahmad under Article 72(1) of the Constitution.
Security has been tightened around the Parliament complex, while the Dhaka Metropolitan Police has imposed restrictions on rallies, processions, gatherings and demonstrations in designated areas around the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban until the session concludes.
