Mirza Faisal Amin, elected MP from Thakurgaon-1, and Eliza Zaman, elected to a reserved women’s seat, will be sworn in on Tuesday (November 3).

Mohammad Rashed Mizan, assistant director (public relations) of the Bangladesh Parliament Secretariat, confirmed the matter in a statement on Monday afternoon (November 2).

According to the statement, the oath-taking ceremony will be held at noon on Tuesday at the Speaker’s office in the Parliament Building.

Faisal Amin, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP)-nominated candidate, was unofficially elected in the by-election to Thakurgaon-1 on October 29, securing 227,917 votes with the party’s ‘Sheaf of Paddy’ symbol.

Earlier, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, then BNP secretary general, was elected MP from the constituency in the 13th parliamentary election held on February 12. The Election Commission declared the seat vacant after he was elected the country’s 23rd president.

Meanwhile, Eliza Zaman was elected MP in a by-election to a vacant reserved women’s seat in the 13th Parliament. She was declared elected unopposed on Monday after the deadline for withdrawing nomination papers expired.

The seat fell vacant after Ferdousi Ahmed Misty, a BNP lawmaker from the reserved women’s seats, resigned on October 1.
