Prime Minister Tarique Rahman left Istanbul for New York on Monday after a two-hour-and-35-minute stopover in the Turkish city, as he heads to attend the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
A Turkish Airlines flight carrying the prime minister, his wife Dr Zubaida Rahman and other members of his entourage departed Istanbul Airport at 2:10pm local time, according to Prime Minister’s Assistant Press Secretary KM Nazmul Haque.
Earlier, the flight arrived in Istanbul at 10:55am local time after an eight-hour-and-45-minute journey from Dhaka.
The flight is scheduled to land at John F Kennedy International Airport in New York at 5:55pm local time.
Bangladesh’s Permanent Representative to the UN Irene Zubaida Khan and Ambassador to the United States Tareq Md Ariful Islam will receive the prime minister at the airport.
He will then be taken by motorcade to the Hyatt Grand Central New York, where he will stay during his visit.
Tarique Rahman is scheduled to address the UN General Assembly on September 24.
He is also expected to attend several high-level meetings and bilateral discussions on the sidelines of the UNGA.
