Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is expected to visit Tokyo on a four-day trip later this month at the invitation of Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi.

He may leave Dhaka for Japan on October 26, according to diplomatic sources. Preliminary preparations for the visit are underway, while the final schedule is being coordinated.

Prime Minister’s Press Secretary Saleh Shibli told Kalbela on Tuesday that the prime minister was expected to visit Japan towards the end of the month and that preparations were ongoing. However, he did not confirm the exact departure date.

Takaichi extended the invitation to Tarique during the seventh Bangladesh-Japan Foreign Office Consultations held in Dhaka on August 12.

Japanese Senior Deputy Foreign Minister Hiroyuki Namazu conveyed the invitation on behalf of Takaichi during the bilateral consultations, according to Bangladesh’s Foreign Ministry.

The planned visit is expected to further strengthen bilateral ties and advance discussions on trade, investment, development cooperation and other areas of mutual interest. Recent reports indicate that senior officials from Bangladesh and Japan have already held discussions on arrangements for the three- to four-day visit.
