Prime Minister Tarique Rahman will meet the family members of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) student Abrar Fahad on Thursday, according to BanglaNews24.com.
The meeting comes on the seventh anniversary of Abrar’s death. Abrar was beaten to death at BUET’s Sher-e-Bangla Hall in October 2019 by leaders and activists of the then Bangladesh Chhatra League. His death sparked widespread protests across the country.
A lower court sentenced 20 people to death and five others to life imprisonment in the murder case in 2021.
The High Court later upheld the verdicts. Several convicts remain absconding, while one escaped from prison.
The meeting is expected to focus on the family’s concerns over the implementation of the court verdict and justice for Abrar.
