A rally of village police members will be held at the former trade fair ground in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, Dhaka, on November 7, with Prime Minister Tarique Rahman set to attend as the chief guest.

The rally is scheduled to begin at 11am, according to a notice issued by the Local Government Division on October 8.

A preparatory meeting will be held at 11am on October 13 at the conference room of the Local Government Division at the Bangladesh Secretariat to ensure the successful organisation of the event.

State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Mir Shahe Alam will attend the preparatory meeting as the chief guest, while Local Government Division Secretary Md Shahidul Hasan will chair it.

Village police members, serving as dafadars and mahalladars, play an important role in maintaining law and order and ensuring public security at the union level.

Their duties include patrolling rural areas, assisting police in crime prevention, collecting information on criminal activities and supporting various public services of union parishads.

However, village police organisations have long been demanding better salaries and benefits, inclusion in the national pay scale, revised pay grades, ration and medical facilities, risk allowances and retirement benefits.
