Acting President Hafiz Uddin Ahmed on Wednesday challenged deposed prime minister Sheikh Hasina over claims that she would return to Bangladesh in December, saying, “They say they will return in December. Let them come—we will meet on the streets.”
Speaking at a state programme marking July Mass Uprising Day at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Center, Hafiz Uddin was responding to campaign messages by supporters of the now-banned Awami League claiming that Hasina would return to the country later this year.
He criticised the former ruling party, alleging that it had shown no remorse despite accusations of enforced disappearances, killings, torture and money laundering.
“We are waiting. Let them come to Bangladesh. God willing, we will meet on the streets,” the acting president said.
