Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Senior Joint Secretary General Advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi Ahmed has been appointed acting secretary general of the party.
The decision was taken at a meeting of senior BNP leaders chaired by BNP Chairman and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Thursday, according to party sources.
A senior party leader, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the decision would be formally announced by the party by Thursday night.
Rizvi has been given the responsibility following the resignation of Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir as BNP secretary general and a member of the party’s Standing Committee after he became the party’s candidate for the presidency.
According to sources attending the meeting, Rizvi will serve as acting secretary general until the party’s next national council.
He will also continue to serve as the party’s spokesperson, the sources said.
