US President Donald Trump has welcomed the recently signed defence pact between Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Pakistan, saying the agreement signals growing cooperation among countries in the Middle East.
In a post on his social media platform Truth Social, Trump said the agreement showed that Middle Eastern countries were gradually coming together. He also said the pact would strengthen their ability to ensure their own security.
Earlier this month, Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Pakistan signed a joint defence agreement. Under the pact, an attack on any one of the three countries would be considered an attack on all three, prompting a joint response.
The agreement is being viewed as a significant step towards a new form of security cooperation in the Middle East. It brings NATO member Turkey into a new regional defence framework alongside Saudi Arabia and Pakistan.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan had earlier said that other countries, including Egypt, could join the defence arrangement in the future.
