Prime Minister’s Political Adviser and BNP Standing Committee Member Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has said Bangladesh wants to maintain friendly relations with all countries based on equality.
“Friendship cannot be based on conditions. Relations must be founded on respect for each country’s independence and sovereignty,” he said.
Rizvi made the remarks on Wednesday (August 19) after paying tribute at the graves of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman and former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia at Zia Udyan in the capital.
“Bangladesh is an independent and sovereign country. It wants friendship with everyone on the basis of equality. But friendship cannot be based on conditions,” Rizvi said.
He said the prime minister would maintain relations with all countries based on equality, mutual respect and respect for sovereignty. “If there are no other conditions, our relations with all countries will certainly be based on equality, mutual respect and respect for sovereignty,” he said.
Rizvi further said that if any hidden conditions were attached, friendship would not be possible.
“We believe in everyone’s independence and sovereignty, and we will respect everyone’s sovereignty,” he said.
Referring to India, Rizvi said the government would welcome a friendly invitation from India if it came without conditions or vested interests. However, Bangladesh would not move forward if there were any interests involved, he said.
“Bangladesh’s relations with India will also be based on equal dignity. The BNP government will not agree to anything beyond that,” Rizvi said.
Rizvi expressed hope that the Jatiyatabadi Swechchhasebak Dal would remain active in the field to inform the people about various welfare-oriented initiatives taken by the government to implement the BNP’s election manifesto.
BNP Joint Secretary General Habib-un-Nabi Khan Sohel, Volunteer Affairs Secretary Mir Sarafat Ali Sapu and Assistant Volunteer Affairs Secretary Abdul Kader Bhuiyan Jewel were present.
Also attending the programme were Swechchhasebak Dal President SM Jilani, General Secretary Rajib Ahsan, Senior Vice-President Yasin Ali, Organising Secretary Nazmul Hasan, Dhaka North City Swechchhasebak Dal President Sheikh Farid and Dhaka South City President Zahir Uddin Tuhin, among others.
